Amman, March 29 (Petra) - - Jordan News Agency (Petra) followed up on several cases recently handled by the Jordanian Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (JIACC) to track their outcomes.

As for the 2 main cases, the first concerns expropriation of land for the South Amman wastewater treatment plant, and the second pertains the Mu'tah water pumping station in Karak governorate.

In the first corruption incident, the former Secretary-General of the Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ) and his ex-assistant for sanitation affairs used "fullness of the treated wastewater storage ponds to illegally expropriate land, which belongs to two lawyers." Probes revealed the land had been purchased days ahead of the expropriation was officially announced.

JIACC investigations revealed involvement of 13 individuals in purchasing the land adjacent to South Amman wastewater treatment.

The expropriation violated provisions of the Real Estate Ownership Law and contravened the public interest, specifically the WAJ's benefit.

Furthermore, the expropriation harmed the Authority's financial position, as the owners of the expropriated land benefited millions of dinars at the WAJ's expense.

The investigation also revealed that the commission had conducted the "necessary" probes and referred the case to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor in April 2025.

In a related context, probes showed another case was referred last week against the former WAJ Secretary-General and his ex- assistant for sanitation affairs.

This case concerns the 2 officials for committing offenses of abuse of power, negligence of duty, and squandering of public funds.

These offenses came after their termination of a contract with a contractor for repairing a pipeline puncture from the Mu'tah Pumping Station to Mazar and Mu'tah wastewater treatment plant in Karak governorate.

This termination was carried out without obtaining the funder's approval and snubbed delays in the maintenance work.

As a result, the contractor filed an arbitration case, which resulted in paying over JD630,000, however, he hasn't completed the required work.
